Our Radio Room

The Radio Room (354) is located in our Primary Community Building. The small room has three operating positions: #1 HF SSB, #2 CW /Digital, and #3 VHF/UHF FM and VARA FM Winlink.

Station #1 is a Kenwood TS-590SG running 100 watts on SSB Voice. The antenna is an end fed long wire up 25 ft. Soon we will have a Spiderbeam on the roof of the third floor (approx. 70 ft) for 6-20 meters.

Station #2 is a combination of equipment in a "Go-Box" that can be used for deployment to the field, if necessary. It contains a power supply, US Navigator Interface for digital modes, an ICOM IC-706 for 160-2 meters, and a LDG automatic antenna tuner. This station is used primarily for CW and Digital modes and shares HF and VHF antennas, as available, with the other stations. The "Go-Box" also contains a Wouxun KG-920P dual band VHF/UHF radio and is used as a crossband repeater that allows our resident hams to access our local EMA VHF FM repeater using low power hand-held radios from anyplace on campus.

Station #3 is a TYT TH-9800, 50 watt, VHF/UHF radio that is our primary FM Voice station. We also have a SignaLink sound card interface for Winlink. Our club also sponsors and maintains a Winlink gateway station located at a local broadcast tower site that runs VARA FM on 145.020 MHz and VARA HF on 80, 60. 30. and 10 meter band frequencies. Pictures of that site will be available soon.
